Irishmuusic - 4:20 every Friday - Everybody welcome

Well headliners Nihilis didn’t disappoint. 6 friends from college all decide to start a band together and this is the result. Songs just got heavier and heavier as the night went on. Loved it! Great frontman, full of the gab. Good luck to them!!!!

Only one song on Spotify at the moment but that is going to change I believe.

THE hottest ticket in town for the last few months has been Madra Salach (Filthy Dog) in Workman’s.

Decided to try and see if I could get one on the door but despite asking everyone, none were available.

I gave up and went to go to another gig across the Liffey in Sin É but, despite being completely sober, the bouncer took a dislike to me and wouldn’t let me in. First time in goodness know how many decades this has happened to me, still makes your blood boil. 😡

So I went back to Workman’s and 10 minutes before the band were due on stage, got a ticket! (For less than cover price too) 😎

I’d been warned they weren’t the liveliest band and sure enough they had four chairs set up at the front of the stage.

Couldn’t believe how young they were when they appeared. But the lead singer, Paul Banks, has a fantastic voice. He really can make a song his own.

A great night of Irish ballads with a little bit of diddly thrown in.

Plus I got a set list!!!!

Never, ever, ever give up. Always remember, for every no you are one step closer to a yes.

Have a great weekend everyone, it’s Friday!

TiLT is a pretty special showcase for Irish musical talent. Hosted by John Barker, unbelievably it’s the only radio show in Ireland that promotes Irish bands and singers. You can find it on Dublin City 103.2 FM.

He also hosts a popular monthly live event in the Button Factory that’s free to enter. It’s able to offer free entry thanks to the generosity of the Button Factory offering their premises FOC. All AV and sound engineering is supplied by a local AV Production college who use it to train up their students to be able to host live events. They also receive funding from Ticketmaster to pay the acts that perform.

Tonight was the 40th live event and the three acts appearing were

Avenue 68

Maicín

And

Babyrat - my favourites. 😎

There was a discussion earlier this week on another music forum about Makeshift Art Bar’s gig in Whelan’s tonight. Someone mentioned that it was ‘just noise’. I argued that it maybe just noise to them but to myself and many, many others, it was music pushed to the boundaries.

Makeshift Art Bar are a perfect example of this genre. They played brilliantly tonight. Audience was full of appreciation. Well done all of them.

Watch The Greatness Unfold is a collective of Irish rappers that have started performing in a new Dublin venue for me - Chillers on the Green. Was there last night.

Performers included

Cosmic

Boyler

Gomie

Baby July

Forg.ie

Kaeyan

But the real stars of the night were the dj/mixers in the background who kept the whole night running smoothly.

Couple of great bands coming up………

Adore in Workman’s supporting Sprints. A Heineken sponsored event, all the taps in the bar have been switched and all the bottles in the fridges - 0.0 or Normal. That’s your choice.

Last time I saw Adore was in December ‘24, a week before Shmuu.com launched. My head must have been buzzing at the time, still is!!!!!

What an incredible 16 or so months. Learnt so much, connected with so many people, done lots of things I’ve never done before. Life is good.

Anyways, Adore were superb. When I record the first minute of a band’s performance, it’s usually them at their most subdued and sure enough, when I stopped recording the following clip, they ramped it up seven notches and I physically screamed it was so good.

That’s the whole reason behind this site. To promote Irish bands. To encourage people to get out there and go to gigs. Get people from overseas to choose Ireland as a destination if they want to hear fantastic home grown bands. We have so much talent here.

Sprints coming on in minute. Cannot wait for this!!!!!!

Sprints are a Dublin noise band who are making waves all over the world. Just back from a tour of the US and Germany, the lead singer Carla is a gutsy superstar who is also the Mistress of Mosh. I’ve posted a few over on the mosh thread.

Do you play an instrument? That’s a question I get all the time.

When I was a teenager I dabbled with a few - cornet, tenor horn and bass guitar but all through secondary school, I used to also sing in the school choir. But that all stopped when I left school.

Fast forward to my 50’s and a neighbour suggested I join a choir she was in - Dublin Airport Singers (DAS).

When you’re in choir you have to focus on lots of things - the notes, the words, the rhythm, the conductor and what the other parts are doing. You subsequently don’t have the capacity to think of anything else. This, it turns out, is very good for your mental health. I have got through some very dark times relatively unscathed due to the fact that I’ve sung in a choir.

Here are DAS last night at their end of year concert.

Hi Everyone, it’s Friday!!!!!

Another quiet week gig-wise, so delighted to be out tonight in The Button Factory. Chalk are headlining, supported by BBFT.

Third time seeing BBFT and good to see them settling, genre-wise, to a heavy dance/electronica vibe.

So obvious they love what they do. Good luck to them.

Belfast three-piece Chalk played a blinder tonight. It wasn’t a sell out but the crowd were up for a great night’s music.
