Ireland is famous the world over for our favourite beer and our great pubs. Cannabis now has a great opportunity to further enhance our reputation as the perfect holiday destination where people can kick back, relax and soak up our Irish hospitality, music and the arts.
50% of people in the world hate the smell of cannabis. Anyone who has been to New York in recent years will testify that the smell of cannabis is everywhere. What if we did it differently in Ireland?
In 2004, Ireland was the first country in the world to ban smoking in public places. It was an incredibly successful campaign and now everyone can enjoy a night out in the pub without their health being comprised by others.
What if we kept the smoking and vaping of cannabis illegal in Ireland but only permitted Shmuuing? There would be no smell to annoy anyone. People looking for a holiday destination may prefer to go somewhere where they know they won't have to smell cannabis users.
It's a simple idea but it could be incredibly successful for Irish tourism. 57 million tourists visited New York last year (about five times the number who visit Ireland). What if 50% of them wanted to go somewhere where they didn't have to smell cannabis?
